Steve Ravensdale

This fund has been set up in the memory of Steve Ravensdale, who sadly passed away in September 2013 after a very short battle with oesphogeal cancer. Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Steve was in the care of St. Elizabeth Hospice for only a short time, but in that time the respect, compassion and care that he, and the family, received was next to none. We know that Steve would have really wanted to give back to these amazing people, so that this kind of work can be continued. Steve was a huge personality, always the life and soul of the party (even when he wasn't necessarily invited!). He had a great love of music, and spent many years trying to master the art of singing and playing guitar at the same time, which seemed to become effortless after a few drinks! The family, and probably the neighbours, will remember well Steve's guitar playing at the weekends. Steve's rendition of Wet, Wet Wet's Love Is All Around, made him a 'karaoke legend' amongst his family and friends and it was always difficult to get him to give back the microphone. His music taste was eclectic to say the least, he particularly enjoyed the sounds of Bob Dylan, Lady Gaga and Bob Seger. Steve was a lorry driver, who in his youth, made deliveries all over Europe often with Lee Low (who has a few stories to tell!). Steve even introduced Lee to his niece Carolyn, when she came to stay with the family. The two are now married. More recently though, he worked for Magnus Transport and was contracted to Celotex in Hadleigh, where he made a great many friends. In the past though, Steve was in 5 battery of the royal artillery in the British Army. It was while he was on leave that he travelled to Suffolk to visit his best friend. The two friends went to Tavitons in Hadleigh and Steve took a shine to one of the waitresses working there. A few months later he asked her to marry him. Steve and Theresa were married in 1978. Steve and Theresa have three children, Shane, Sommer and Alicia, and one grandson George. In 2012 Steve took the family on holiday to Spain. He and Theresa had many holidays together there and wanted to share the experience with the children. Steve loved holidaying in Spain and spent the great majority of the holiday playing in the pool with George. The fundraising that we hope to do will serve as a tribute to Steve's memory. We aim to organise parties, dances and quizzes (Steve's favourite things) and raise lots of money for this wonderful charity.
